On April 20, 1973, the Clube do Calhambeque was founded. They installed the club: José Azevedo Sobral (first president), Wellington Soares e Silva (vice president), Ib Carvalho, Randal Pompeu Neto, Cláudio Martins Júnior, Tibério Burlamarque, Breno Albuquerque and Aladino Borges.

In December 1976, the name Clube do Calhambeque was changed to Veteran Car Club do Ceará, affiliated to the Veteran Car Club do Brasil. According to the institution's website: “Veteran Car Club is a non-profit society, with the main objectives: the restoration, maintenance and preservation of the national automobile memory. Associates are committed to pursuing the maintenance of cars in strictly original characteristics. The activity has cultural and didactic aspects, transmitting information and knowledge to the present generations regarding the ingenuity and study of art used in the automobile industry at various times and its evolution until today ”.

The founding members were: Martim Júnior, Francisco de Assis Vieira Filho, Wellington Soares e Silva, Vicente Attanázio, Eurico Gurgel, Adrísio Barbosa Câmara, Flávio Veras Pacheco, José Eimar Sales and Gerardo Aguiar Vale.

Before the founding of the club, the exhibitions of vintage cars took place in a nomadic way, in places like Avenida Pontes Vieira and Praça do Hospital Militar, due to the lack of a place to exhibit cars. In order to establish a safe space for cars to meet, the Veteran Car Club members inaugurated in the State, on July 3, 1981, the Automobile Museum of Ceará, with the support of Lúcio Alcântara, at the time mayor of Fortaleza . The association composed of lovers of old vehicles made the dream come true.

There is a sign at the entrance of the institution to thank the companies and people who collaborated in its installation and construction. Among these, Roberto Faria, the then president of the Urban Maintenance and Cleaning Company - EMLURB and Ricardo Rodrigues, responsible for the architectural project. At the premiere, an exhibition of 35 old cars marked the beginning of antigomobilismo in Ceará.

Currently, the Museum exhibits 57 cars of the most varied brands and models and is maintained by the Veteran Car Club of Ceará, affiliated to the Brazilian Federation of Old Vehicles, which, in turn, is a member of the Fédération International des Véhicules Anciens - FIVA. The site has approximately 50 cars on display: national, American and European. The vehicles were manufactured between the years 1910 and 1970 and belong to the members of the Club. Each car represents the charm and style of the time, such as funerals and those of the Second World War.
